The Galaxy S20 5G series is getting a new update in Nordic countries, pushing the firmware version to G98xBXXU2ATF5. It's the second firmware update for the Galaxy S20 5G series in Europe to carry the June 2020 security patch, and it brings a couple of changes to the Galaxy S20 Ultra's close-up zoom feature.
The close-up zoom feature was first introduced to the Galaxy S20 Ultra with firmware version G98xxXXU2ATE6 a few weeks ago as a way to make up for its longer-than-usual focal length. We detailed this camera mode before, so check our previous story for a video preview of how it works, or rather how it used to work. The latest firmware update changes the way close-up zoom functions by enabling 2x zoom instead of 1.5x zoom. Furthermore, the Use close-up zoom pop-up text has been changed to read Tap here, then back up a bit for better focus. It should make the function's purpose a little bit clearer. Have a look at the screenshot below.
We haven't noticed any additional changes with this latest firmware update for the Galaxy S20 5G series in Nordic countries, and no, the close-up zoom feature hasn't been brought over to the other non-Ultra models, but we'll keep you posted if we find more. Feel free to leave a comment if you come across any other new features and, as always, you can grab the latest update when the notification arrives on the phone or by visiting SamMobile's firmware archive. There, you can download the firmware for your smartphone model and region, and install it on your handset using a Windows PC.
