The July 2020 Android security update started hitting select variants of the Galaxy A50. Identified by version number A505FNXXU5BTF5, the new firmware update debuted in Portugal, though it has yet to expand to any other country. Samsung appears to have bundled the security patch with some unrelated changes, which can be inferred from the aforementioned package name. With that said, seeing how the company still hasn't released an official changelog, it remains to be seen whether those novelties include anything other than generic bug fixes, minor stability/performance improvements, or both.
It's equally unclear how long the rollout will take to be completed, though Samsung's firmware deployment periods tend to span at least several weeks.
Galaxy A50 getting more than just the latest security patch
Galaxy A50 owners who still haven't received a notification prompting them to install the new update are able to attempt triggering the download manually by launching the smartphone's Settings app, tapping Software update, and finally selecting the Download and install option on the following interface. As always, full images will be available for download directly from SamMobile‘s firmware archive shortly after Samsung starts rolling them out.
The security update dated July 1st has so far only made its way to select Galaxy S20 models, with that particular rollout starting last week. Owners of eligible devices are encouraged to download the update over a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure their Galaxy A50 units are either sufficiently charged or charging while the installation is taking place so as to minimize the risk of technical issues.
