Samsung has gotten into the habit of pushing out new security patches to some of its devices before it tells us what security fixes are included in a patch, and the same is true this time around. After releasing the July security update to a handful of its devices, Samsung has published information on the vulnerabilities that are tackled by the new security patch.

July patch fixes crash that could result from setting the wrong wallpaper

As usual, the security patch for Galaxy devices includes fixes for both vulnerabilities in the core Android OS and in Samsung's software. The July patch fixes four critical Android OS vulnerabilities and a bunch of high- and moderate-risk vulnerabilities, along with 14 vulnerabilities that affect only Galaxy devices. It includes a solution for the issue that made Galaxy (and other Android devices) crash when a certain kind of wallpaper was applied. It also fixes an exploit that enabled unauthorized apps to write data on to the SD card, a vulnerability that could allow access to data through a memory leak, among others.

The July security patch is already available for some Galaxy phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 10, and the Galaxy A50. It will make its way to more devices in the coming weeks, and whether or not it is released for your phone or tablet will depend on Samsung's security update schedule and, of course, your device's eligibility. Do keep checking our homepage for alerts of new firmware updates that bring the latest security patch.
