Galaxy Tab S7+ runs at 120Hz refresh rate at maximum screen resolution

Samsung first made the move to high refresh rate tech with the Galaxy S20 series earlier this year, and the newly announced Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ also have a 120Hz display. While the high refresh rate makes for a wonderful user experience, owners of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra have not been pleased with the fact that they cannot use the maximum screen resolution on their phone when 120Hz mode is enabled.

The same limitation is in place on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra as well, and as we learned a few months back, it's because the processor does not provide the required bandwidth to drive the higher refresh rate at QHD resolution. However, we can confirm that the Galaxy Tab S7+ actually makes full use of the screen resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung isn't clear on the methods used to achieved this. Perhaps the aforementioned bandwidth issue was addressed by the newer Snapdragon 865+ chipset, or perhaps the Snapdragon 865 was capable of achieving the same results but the Exynos 990 could not and Samsung leveled the playing field. And since the Galaxy Tab S7+ only comes with a Qualcomm chipset solution regardless of market, the Exynos 990 was no longer a burden that needed accounting for.

This is only speculation, of course, and maybe it's not an issue of bandwidth after all. Instead, it could be that the large 10,090mAh battery made it possible for the Galaxy Tab S7+ to run at 120Hz and 2800 x 1752 resolution and achieve what the Galaxy S20 series or the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra could not. Whatever the case may be, it's great news for prospective Galaxy Tab S7+ buyers. As yet, we don't know if the base Galaxy Tab S7 model can also run 120Hz at max resolution, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out.

Don't forget to check out our Galaxy Tab S7+ review in the meantime to find out if the latest flagship tablet from Samsung is worth your hard-earned cash.
