The Galaxy A50 is joining a number of other Galaxy devices that have been updated with the January 2021 security patch. Samsung has rolled out a new update to the Galaxy A50 in multiple European countries. It is accompanied by firmware version A505FNXXS5BTLA and brings all the security fixes included in the January patch, which was detailed by Samsung earlier this week.
Security fixes are the only addition in the new firmware, which is to be expected as the Galaxy A50 only recently got updated to One UI 2.5 and received some new features in the process. And the A50 will stay on that version of Samsung's software for another couple of months – according to the company's official roadmap, its most popular mid-range phone of 2019 is scheduled to get Android 11 and One UI 3.0 sometime in April this year.
In any case, the January security patch is now available for the Galaxy A50, and if you own the phone, you can check if the update is available over the air from the device's Settings » Software update menu. These rollouts are phased so you may or may not be able to download the update just yet, so be sure to check again in a few days. As usual, our firmware archive will have the full system images that you can use for manually upgrading your phone using a Windows PC.
