Four weeks have passed since the original Galaxy Fold began its journey into Android 11 territory and the same foldable device — model number SM-F900U1 — is now receiving the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 firmware update in the USA.
Galaxy Fold owners can identify the update by firmware version F900U1UEU4DUA3. The new release can be downloaded by opening the phone's Settings app, accessing the Software update section at the bottom, and tapping Download and install. SamMobile readers can circumvent this procedure by downloading the latest update from our firmware archive and installing it manually on their phones using a Windows PC.
Included with the update is the February 2021 security patch which is already available for numerous other Galaxy devices, but of course, One UI 3.0 is the most exciting thing about the new release. The fundamentals haven't changed but the ways in which One UI 3.0 goes about achieving ease of access and user-friendliness are optimized. Many UI elements are easier to reach, read, or both, and the whole UI looks more modern.
This is the second, and second-to-last major Android OS update planned for the Galaxy Fold. The phone was shipped with Android 9, and ten months ago it got updated to Android 10. The phone remains eligible for one additional Android OS release, though at least ten more months will have to pass before an Android 12-based One UI update for the Galaxy Fold will be ready to hit the waves.
