Samsung has unveiled two very promising 5G phones today, namely the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72. The A-series feels just as uniform as ever, and that's because the two new entries to Samsung's smartphone portfolio are very much alike.
This is to be expected given the high degree of commonality between the previous models released last year — the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A71 — but now we're approaching the end of Q1 2021, so let's turn our attention towards the brand-new Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 for a change.
Both phones have roughly the same hardware, ranging from the Snapdragon 720G chipset and storage options, to the high refresh rate 90Hz displays. It's worth noting that the 5G variant of the Galaxy A52 boast a 120Hz panel and the Snapdragon 750G SoC, whereas the Galaxy A72 5G has yet to be announced.
The variants that got unveiled at Galaxy Awesome Unpacked were given stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, as well as a coveted IP67 dust and water resistance rating. They ship with Android 11 and an almost complete version of One UI 3, peppered with features such as Pro Video Mode, 4K Video Snapshot, Night Mode, and Fun Mode.
Galaxy A52 vs Galaxy A72: The key differences
Similarities aside, here are the few key differences between the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72:
- The Galaxy A52 has a 6.5-inch display. Its sibling is equipped with a larger 6.7-inch panel.
- The Galaxy A52 has a 4,500mAh battery. The Galaxy A72 has a 5,000mAh unit. Both benefit from 25W charging.
- The Galaxy A72 replaces the 5MP depth camera with a more useful 3x telephoto shooter lifted from the Galaxy S20 FE.
This pretty much wraps it up. The Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 are both shaping up to be fantastic phones, with the latter being a better fit for larger palms and technically superior. Even so, we wouldn't be surprised if the Galaxy A52 will record higher sales figures by the end of 2021. It happened last year when the Galaxy A51 proved to be a whole lot more successful than the Galaxy A71.
Which one of the two new Galaxy A smartphones would you choose, and why? Is it the Galaxy A52 4G / 5G or the Galaxy A72? Join us in the comment section below.
