Samsung takes foldables to a whole new level with this demonstration

Strictly speaking, triple-folding tablets have been around for quite some time. TCL was one of the first companies to demonstrate the tech. Samsung took it to a whole new level by demonstrating it alongside a 17-inch foldable laptop and an under-panel camera. Now, Samsung Display is flexing its proverbial muscles again.

This time around, we get to see a lot less of Samsung's triple-folding display in action. The 30-second clip only shows the foldable in its expanded state with the creases visible. Coincidentally, it is shaped like the letter ‘S', which not only demonstrates the angle at which it folds but also serves as a tacit branding opportunity.

As we've seen earlier, the tablet lets you run three apps simultaneously on the individual screens. On paper, there are dozens of ways one can use the tablet, but it will require underlying software support. Furthermore, app developers will also have to optimize their offerings for rather unusual aspect ratios.

The only spec that Samsung tells us about the triple-folding tablet is that it will use a 7.2-inch OLED screen. As one commenter diligently pointed out, this particular prototype may be lying in the warehouse for a bit too long. It seems to be running an older Android version and has Google Play Music —a service that has been shuttered for a while— on it.

There is no telling when the triple-folding tablet will hit shelves. The fact that it is still in the early stages of development indicates that Samsung has a lot of kinks to iron out. Samsung could, in all likelihood, demonstrate it as a ‘concept' device and call it a day. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 seem to be doing fairly well, and there's no reason for Samsung to change a winning formula, at least for the next generation or two.
