Last month, it was reported that Google is all set to launch the Material You makeover for the Nearby Share feature on Android phones and tablets. Meanwhile, many other Google apps, including Android Auto and Google TV, have already received the Material You redesign. Now Google is finally rolling out the Material You update for the Nearby Share app.
The Nearby Share is Google's answer to Apple's AirDrop. It is available on all Android phones, including Samsung Galaxy phones. The latest December Google Play System update will bring Material You tweaks for Nearby Share. The changelog mentions, “Revamp the visual and motion design for Nearby Share Android app.” The update will roll out with Google Play Services v22.49, which is not yet widely rolled out.
The Material You revamp brings visual changes to the main UI you interact with on the Nearby Share app. A new wave animation runs from left to right when the app is “Looking for nearby devices.” The text now has a slightly bigger font and is centered. Also, you will see a larger share preview compared to the current preview.
While the update will take some time to roll out widely, you can ensure you have installed the latest version of the security update. Also, note that this new Google Nearby Share Material You makeover will arrive via a server-side update.
