iPhone 13 Pro bill of materials is nearly $70 higher than Galaxy S21+’s

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro — which is the biggest rival to Samsung's Galaxy S21 — was recently disassembled by TechInsights, who estimated that the bill of materials for the iPhone 13 Pro costs an estimated $570. This makes it more expensive to manufacture than the Galaxy S21+, though both phones are available for purchase unlocked at a similar price of $999.

According to the same source, the bill of materials for the Galaxy S21+ is around $508. The iPhone 13 Pro is seemingly more expensive to produce, at least as far as the cost of parts is concerned. However, it's important to keep in mind that the bill of materials doesn't include any R&D and shipping costs or other expenses. The estimate simply adds the cost of individual parts, which reaches a total of $570 in the case of the iPhone 13 Pro.

Apple's bill of materials is higher this year

Of note is that the iPhone 13 Pro costs more to produce than the Galaxy S21+ and the iPhone 12 Pro. The model that Apple released last year has an estimated bill of materials worth $548.50.

This indicates that, unlike Samsung, Apple has been spending more on iPhone parts over the past year. In contrast, the Galaxy S21 Ultra was estimated to be cheaper to manufacture than the Galaxy S20 Ultra by about 12%-13%, and thankfully, the 2021 flagship was also cheaper at launch by $200.
