Yesterday, we learned that the Galaxy S21 FE could get the One UI 5.1 update soon. However, the new software is expected to debut with the Galaxy S23 series on February 1, which means that the Galaxy S21 FE is at least a month away from getting One UI 5.1. In the meantime, Samsung is rolling out the January 2023 security patch to the international variant of the Galaxy S21 FE.
The new update bumps up the phone’s firmware version to G990EXXS3DWA6. It brings the January 2023 security patch that fixes over fifty security vulnerabilities. The update is currently rolling out the international variant of the Galaxy S21 FE, which carries model number SM-G990E. The update is available in three Latin American regions: Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico. Other regions should also get it soon.
If you are a Galaxy S21 FE user in these regions, you can go to Settings » Software Update and click on Download and install to check for the new update. If you are still not seeing the update, you can download the latest firmware from our database and flash it manually.
The Galaxy S21 FE was launched with Android 12 (One UI 4.1) onboard. Recently, the device was updated to Android 13 (One UI 5.0). Along with One UI 5.1, based on Android 13, the Galaxy S21 FE is eligible to get Android 14 and Android 15 updates. Although the Galaxy S21 FE is relatively new, if you plan to upgrade to a new Samsung flagship, you can pre-reserve the Galaxy S23 now and get $50 off.
