After beta-testing the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update for the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung released the stable version last week. However, the stable update had a screen refresh rate-related bug that made animations and scrolling appear stuttery. The South Korean firm has now released a new hotfix update to solve the issue.
The US variants of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra running the first stable version of One UI 4.0 reverted to a 60Hz refresh rate as soon as the user's finger stopped touching the screen. It is due to a buggy implementation of adaptive screen refresh rate, and it made animations, scrolling, and transitions appear jittery. To fix this issue, Samsung released the second stable version of One UI 4.0 in the US with firmware version G99xUSQU4BUK9.
This new update is currently available on Verizon's network, and other carriers could release it soon. While the official changelog doesn't specifically mention this bug fix, many users have confirmed that it largely solves the screen refresh rate issue. Global variants of the Galaxy S21 series do not have this issue, so the new update might not be released to those units.
