Samsung debuted the much-awaited Galaxy S23 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event on February 1. Galaxy fans across the globe and in India were pretty pleased with the upgrades the phone brings over its predecessor, and looking at the pre-booking numbers, the excitement of getting their hands on the Galaxy S23 series is clearly visible.
In India, Samsung has received twice as many pre-bookings for the Galaxy S23 series compared to the Galaxy S22 series. The new lineup includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the mighty Galaxy S23 Ultra. This indicates that the premium segment's demand is still strong in Q1 2023. Raju Pullan, Senior VP at Samsung India, said (via ET Telecom), “We have received almost 1,40,000 pre-books of the Galaxy S23 series within the first 24 hours of opening pre-bookings.”
Samsung sold $169 million worth of Galaxy S23 devices in India in just 1 day despite a price hike
Taking an average price of INR 1 lakh (around $1,200) for each Galaxy S23 unit adds up to almost INR 1,400 crore (around $169 million) of pre-booking devices in less than 24 hours. This comes on the heels of a 1.5 times increase in marketing and retail expansion by the smartphone giant. The Galaxy S23 is quite a bit more expensive than the Galaxy S22 series in India, but thanks to the sweet deals on offer and the bundles that are on offer in pre-booking, fans don't seem bothered about the increase in price.
Samsung has also announced local manufacturing of the Galaxy S23 series at the Noida plant, which is the world's largest mobile factory in India. In fact, the company has been manufacturing the Galaxy Z Fold series in India since Q4 2022. This ensures that the products are available in stores on the day of sale with no problems or shortages. In terms of numbers, Samsung expects to grow by double digits in the premium segment this year, outperforming the industry average.
