The Galaxy S23 Ultra has the best camera among all other Samsung smartphones, but it is not the best among its competitors, according to DxOMark. Quite far from it. The new Ultra flagship phone ranked 10th and got beaten by smartphones from a few other brands, including Huawei, Google, Honor, Apple, and Xiaomi.
As usual, DxOMark lists both pros and cons related to the camera experience. On the bright side, the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera system performs consistently across the board, making it a great all-around cameraphone. That is more or less the overarching theme with Samsung's latest phones. They provide a solid overall experience across the board, from hardware to software.
Back to the pros, the reviewers also praised the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera system for photo rendering, good autofocus in photo and video recording, and strong telephoto capabilities at long range.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 Ultra reportedly falls short in a few areas, including loss of image detail and shutter lag in low-light conditions and instabilities with focus and exposure in backlit scenes.
Galaxy S23 Ultra ties with Google and Vivo for the 10th spot
Samsung's finest S series smartphone wasn't even in the top 5 in DxOMark's ranking. The Galaxy S23 Ultra tied with the Google Pixel 7 and the Vivo X90 Pro+ for 10th place, with each of these phones scoring 140 points for the rear-facing camera.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra's selfie camera tied with the Asus ZenFone 7 Pro with a score of 137, and both phones tied for 10th place in this category.
Devices that scored higher in the reviewer's primary camera ranking system include the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, Google Pixel 7 Pro, Honor Magic4 Ultimate, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, Huawei P50 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and lastly, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
Samsung has just pushed the Galaxy S23 Ultra out of its pre-order period, and the flagship is now available for purchase in 55 markets worldwide. Check out our review if you want to learn about our experience using the device for the past couple of weeks.
