Samsung uses MWC 2023 to promote Busan World Expo 2030

Samsung is promoting the Korean city of Busan as the host for World Expo 2030 with every opportunity it gets, and one such opportunity is the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2023 event. The company has set up a panel to support Busan in the bid for World Expo 2030 and inform MWC visitors about the strengths of the Korean city and why it should be voted as the host for the 2030 tech event.

Samsung has projected a “Busan World Expo 2030” promotional video on a large screen in Fira de Barcelona. Furthermore, many Galaxy S23 posters throughout the city — including the one on the outer wall of the Barcelona Cathedral — contain messages that promote Busan as the host city for World Expo 2030. And within the MWC 2030 perimeter, Samsung organized activities to support the bid for its home country.

Samsung is all in with its efforts to make Busan the host of World Expo 2030. Last month, the company installed a series of digital outdoor adverts in Davos, Switzerland to gain the attention of around 2,700 leaders and top officials from 52 countries.

But these efforts go even further back. Last year, Samsung installed digital ads in 23 locations across Busan and sought support from high-ranking officials, including the Presidents of Mexico and Panama and the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

World Expo is a fair that takes place only every five years, with its location changing every time. The next Expo will take place in 2025 in Japan, but the location for Expo 2030 has yet to be decided, which is why Samsung is doing its best to vote in the Korean city of Busan. Aside from Korea, other candidates include Italy (Rome), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), and Ukraine (Odesa). Russia (Moscow) withdrew from the bid following the military invasion of Ukraine.

Samsung will likely continue to invest resources into promoting Busan World Expo 2030 throughout the remainder of the decade, and only time will tell what the company will do next.
