While Samsung and LG unveiled their 2023 TV lineups at CES 2023 earlier this year, Sony waited for MWC 2023 to unveil its new TVs for this year. The company has a good mix of direct-backlit LCD TVs, full-array backlit LCD TVs, Mini-LED TVs, and OLED TVs in its new TV lineup, and its flagship TV uses Samsung's QD-OLED panel.
The Sony A95L is the successor to last year's award-winning A90L QD-OLED TV, and it uses Samsung Display's second-generation QD-OLED panel with improved color volume and higher peak brightness. It comes in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch size options. It features a 4K QD-OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. Sony claims its new TV is twice as bright as last year, which means we are looking at 1,500 nits or more. It is the world's first QD-OLED TV with 120Hz Dolby Vision.
The TV has a very simple design and a table stand that can be attached in three ways to suit your needs. It has four HDMI ports, but only two are HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K 120Hz gaming. The TV runs the Android TV-based Google TV interface, and it can show two video streams at a time (Multi View), which means you can play your favorite game on a console while also watching that game's walkthrough on YouTube on the other half of the screen.
Like Samsung, Sony has also implemented a Game Menu that displays essential settings such as VRR, Motion Blur Reduction, Black Equalizer, and Crosshair. When connected to a PS5, it offers additional features like Auto HDR Tune and picture presets for FPS and RTS games. For parents, it has Calm Mode that plays videos that help kids go to sleep. The Eco Dashboard allows users to set eco-conscious settings to reduce power consumption and make the earth a greener place.
Other additional features include a premium backlit remote controller, BRAVIA Cam, a built-in light sensor, Acoustic Surface Audio+ with tweeters for better audio, Dolby Atmos, Acoustic Center Sync for syncing with Sony soundbars, AirPlay 2, Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Alexa, IMAX Enhanced, and Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode.
