Even though WhatsApp lags behind other popular apps, such as Telegram, in terms of features, it is still the most preferred instant messaging application on everyone's phone. Recently, it came to light that WhatsApp is testing a new feature that would allow you to mute calls from an unknown number on your Galaxy and other Android phones. Well, the company is baking another new feature in its oven.
Currently testing only for iOS, according to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp could soon let you create self-destructing groups. At present, the self-destructing messaging options available on WhatsApp include disappearing messages, view-once, and status updates. However, soon the Meta-owned platform would allow you to create new groups that would expire after a certain period of time. This would eventually help save some storage.
You will be able to define a pre-determined expiration date, and the WhatsApp group will self-destruct after the expiration date is reached. Pre-defined timing includes a day, a week, and a custom date range. There is also an option to remove the predefined expiration date. Although the group will not be deleted, members will be prompted to clean up groups on the expiration date.
There is no clarity on how the self-destructing groups will work on WhatsApp. One thing is for sure, if this feature rolls out for iOS, then it will surely be available for the Android version of the app sooner or later. Several users will be able to take advantage of this self-destructing WhatsApp group, for example, event organizers, group travelers, and medical consultants.
