Google copies one more One UI design idea for Android 14

When it comes to custom UI, Samsung's One UI is right at the top. It comes with all the essentials and several extra features, looks clean, provides a plethora of customization options, and much more. Now even Google is taking some hints from One UI and is reportedly copying the One UI-like volume control for the Android 14 OS.

With the Android 14 update, Pixel phone users will be able to use the new notifications and ringtone volume control panel, the same which is available with One UI. The new One UI-inspired Android 14 volume control panel will let Google Pixel owners set different volume levels for ringtones and notifications.

The ability to set separate volume and notification sliders on Pixel phones was made available with the Android 14 Developer Preview. However, within a short span of time, that feature was removed, and everything was dialed back to the previous UI. Esper's Mishaal Rahman says that Google has been working on offering separate notification and ringtone volumes since the Android 13 QPR2 beta release.

The ability to set different volume levels has already been available for Galaxy users for quite sometime

Ringtone and notification volumes aren't linked, but both will get muted when you put your phone on vibrate. The feature is currently under development, and Pixel smartphones will get this One UI volume control panel in either the stable version or future public beta builds. Samsung users already have the option to set different volume levels for notifications and ringtones. Galaxy users can even turn off the notification sounds and keep the ringtone volume loud, or vice versa.

This isn't the only One UI-inspired feature that Android 14 is reportedly set to bring. It has been reported that Google is bringing screen flash notifications and auto-confirm unlock features, all inspired by One UI. While One UI isn't perfect, it surely has a bunch of features that will be good to have for Android 14.

Each Samsung app that has a function to delete files, whether it's pictures, notes, or audio recordings, has an individual trash can where files are stored for a while before they're permanently deleted. Or, as One UI calls it in some regions, a “recycle bin” rather than a trash can. These per-app trash cans / […]

Why I have beef with Samsung’s hamburger menus

The hamburger button has been a shortcut to list-type menus in different operating systems and software applications since the '80s (via Wikipedia).
