AT&T Galaxy Note 20 gets new update with Image Clipper, April security patch

Last month, Samsung rolled out the April 2023 security patch to the carrier-unlocked variants of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the US. A few days ago, the update also reached some carrier-locked variants of the two smartphones.

However, devices on the AT&T network hadn’t received the update. Well, that’s changing today. Samsung is now rolling out the April 2023 security patch to the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra on the AT&T network in the US.

The latest software update carries firmware version N98XUSQU4HWD1 and brings with it the April 2023 security patch, which fixes more than 60 security issues. The changelog also says “The Camera and Gallery functions have been improved”.

Although Samsung didn’t mention what those improvements are, we believe that the company is referring to the addition of the new Image Clipper feature that allows you to easily extract a subject from an image and use it as a photo or a sticker in messaging apps to share with others.

Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra units operating on the AT&T network should automatically notify users about the latest update. But if your device doesn't, you can check for it manually by going to Settings » Software update and tapping on the Download and install button.

The international variants of the two smartphones have also received the April 2023 security patch in many Asian and European countries. You can download the firmware for those devices from our database.

Galaxy Note 20 will not get Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update

The Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra were launched in 2020 with Android 10 (One UI 2.0) on board. Samsung promised to offer these devices three years of OS upgrades and rolled out all three upgrades (Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13) on time.

That means neither of these two handsets is eligible for the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update. However, Samsung will keep pushing security updates to the Note 20 series for two more years (till 2025).
