Samsung is releasing a new security patch for the Galaxy A23 5G and Galaxy M23 5G in select markets. And they're not the same markets for both devices, either. In the USA, the carrier-locked Galaxy A23 5G is getting the April 2023 security patch, while in Europe, the Galaxy M23 5G is getting a similar update, but one that may contain additional features.
The Galaxy S23 5G (SM-A236U) update for the US-carrier variants has firmware version A236USQS2CWD8. The official changelog states that “the security of your device has been improved” and not much else.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy M23 5G (SM-M236B) April 2023 update can be identified by firmware version M236BXXU3CWD1, and the official changelog mentions both improved security and overall stability. Unlike the A23 5G update, it appears that the M23 5G update may contain some additional features next to the April 2023 security patch.
Regardless of which device you might be using, if you're in a region where Samsung is rolling out the April 2023 security update, you should be able to download it by opening the Settings app on the Galaxy A23 5G or M23 5G, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.”
And as usual, SamMobile readers can download official Samsung firmware files from our website if they prefer updating their phones manually over a PC.
