Samsung has released the May 2023 security update to the carrier-locked versions of phones in the Galaxy S21 series in the US. The international and unlocked versions of the smartphones received the new security update a few days ago.
Since this is a minor security update, don't expect it to bring any new features to your phone.
Galaxy S21 May 2023 security update: What's new?
The latest software update for the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with firmware version G998USQS6EWD4 on Sprint's network and G998USQS6EWD5 on Comcast's network. More network carriers in the US may release the new update within the next few days. The May 2023 security patch fixes over 70 security vulnerabilities found in Galaxy phones, including a few that were marked as critical.
If you have a carrier-locked version of the Galaxy S21 series phone in the US, you can now check for the newest software update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S21 series in early 2021 with Android 11 onboard. The devices in the lineup received the Android 12 update in late 2021 and the Android 13 update in late 2022. Later this year, the phones will get the Android 14-based One UI 6 update.
