Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen should have more cool party tricks

One of the most significant upgrades to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series is coming. Every leak so far confirms that the next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a larger cover display. And although the new cover screen has an unusual folder-like shape, it guarantees much higher usability when the flip phone is folded shut. But to maximize the potential of the 3.4-inch panel, we believe Samsung should go above and beyond in the software department and create high-quality One UI elements for the cover screen's size and shape.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen will allow people to view and write messages, browse the web, and utilize apps and One UI features more comfortably when they don't feel like unfolding the phone. That's a perk in itself, but we're hoping that Samsung has more tricks up its sleeve.

Samsung needs unique UI elements and animations for the cover screen

Chances are that every foldable Galaxy flip phone moving forward will have an external display large enough to cover almost half of the device. And as such, it might be time for Samsung to develop new and clever party tricks, specifically for the cover screen.

We believe that Samsung should create a whole range of new animations that should belong exclusively to the folder-shaped cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and future models. Every notification type possible — whether it's a message notification, information about a connected wearable, or everything in between — should get a well-detailed animation adorned with gorgeous UI elements.

These high-quality, almost Dynamic Island-esque animations for the cover screen should bring an element of uniqueness to the Galaxy Z Flip series. And for users worried about battery life, Samsung should offer the option to disable these animations from showing up when the cover screen is turned off (or the Always-on Display is enabled) and when the phone detects that it is inside a pocket — something that Galaxy phones can already do.

Whether or not Samsung has anything like this planned for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 remains to be seen. According to industry reports, the company should unveil the next-gen foldable phones in July at an Unpacked event hosted at COEX in Korea.
