Reminder: Galaxy Note 20 series won’t get Android 14, One UI 6 update

The S Pen lives on, and the Galaxy Note pedigree lives on as well. Samsung ditched the Note branding in 2021 as it decided to focus on foldable phones, but it also decided to turn the Ultra models in the Galaxy S lineup into Note smartphones by adding S Pen support and even opting to use the blockier design of the Galaxy Note series.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra were the last devices with the Note branding, and while they will complete three years on the market in two months, they're still pretty excellent devices with specs that can hold their own against newer smartphones.

Android 13 and One UI 5 were the last hurrah for the Galaxy Note 20 duo

But software updates are just as important as a phone's specs, and with Android 14 and One UI 6.0 getting closer for Galaxy devices, we think it's a good idea to remind Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra owners that they won't be receiving any new major OS upgrades, like a number of other popular Samsung phones.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are not eligible for Android 14 and One UI 6.0, as they are only promised three generations of Android OS upgrades. Android 13 was their last major Android update, while One UI 5.1 is likely to be the final One UI version for the two phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will launch running One UI 5.1.1 later this year, but with One UI's x.1.1 updates mostly focused on foldable devices, don't expect to see One UI 5.1.1 on your Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra. But you can rest assured that Samsung will continue to release monthly security updates for your phone for at least a few more months before shifting to a quarterly security update schedule.
