Galaxy F54 shows what the Exynos 1380 chip is really capable of

Today, Samsung launched a new Galaxy F series phone in India. The Galaxy F54 is a rebranded version of the Galaxy M54, and it takes features from various other mid-range Samsung phones, like the Galaxy A54 and last year's Galaxy M53. And when it comes to performance, the Galaxy F54 actually trumps the Galaxy A54, despite the latter being the costliest mid-range phone Samsung has launched in 2023.

The Galaxy A54 was the first Samsung phone powered by the Exynos 1380 chip. The Exynos 1380 is a solid chip on paper, but Samsung couldn't optimize the Galaxy A54 well enough to impress anyone. The Galaxy A34, which is considerably cheaper and has a somewhat outdated MediaTek chip at its heart, ran better than the A54 out of the box.

The Galaxy A54 has a lot going for it, but it just isn't the best device for those who want a fast and smooth user experience, even after some software updates that have improved performance. It doesn't help that the Galaxy A54's price tag is not as palatable as its predecessors. Yes, you get features like a glass back, water and dust resistance, and stereo speakers, but the price increase over the Galaxy A53 is not exactly justified.

Well, Samsung seems to have taken that feedback to heart. The result is the Galaxy F54, which launched in India today. Available as the Galaxy M54 in some markets, the Galaxy F54 shows how capable the Exynos 1380 chip is when the software is optimized. The F54 can slow down now and then, which is something Samsung's mid-range phones will probably never stop doing, but most of the time it performs really well.

The Galaxy F54 takes better advantage of the Exynos 1380

Again, the Galaxy A54 runs better now than it did at launch thanks to software updates. But it still isn't as optimized as the Galaxy F54. Basically, if you care about your phone's performance but have been avoiding the Galaxy A54 thinking the Exynos 1380 is to blame, well, you should take a look at the Galaxy F54.

In addition to surprisingly good performance, the Galaxy F54 has impressive features like a 108MP rear camera, a 6,000 mAh battery that can last all day long with heavy use, a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, and a promise of four major OS upgrades. Add to that the aggressive launch price and the Galaxy F54 is a force to be reckoned with in Samsung's 2023 mid-range smartphone lineup.
