Meta is constantly working to improve WhatsApp, and the company often tests new ideas using beta builds that roll out through the Google Play Beta Program. These builds offer a glimpse into what features the stable WhatsApp app might get in the future.
WhatsApp beta version 2.23.13.11 was recently distributed through the Google Play Beta program, and users getting this version spotted a new feature that lets them choose how long pinned messages stay pinned within chats and groups (via WABetaInfo).
The 2.23.13.11 beta update offers three options for auto message unpinning: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. It's pretty self-explanatory: this pinning and auto-unpinning feature lets WhatsApp users make important announcements that stay atop conversations until they expire or they're removed manually. And yes, users can manually unpin messages at any time, even after they've set an auto-unpinning parameter.
There's no official release date for the pinning and unpinning feature for WhatsApp, but needless to say, development is underway, so the features might go live in the public WhatsApp builds any day now.
In parallel, WhatsApp developers have been working on reducing spam by letting users block unknown callers. The feature was released through an app update earlier this week. Over the past few weeks alonge, the app received numerous feature updates and improvements, including an enhanced media picker.
