Samsung dives deep into June 2023 camera update with extended changelog

Lately, Samsung's changelogs for firmware and app updates have been hit-and-miss. Some prevalent issues are that changelogs for device updates don't always go into detail, and app updates often borrow old changelogs for new releases.

Thankfully, Samsung seems to be at least somewhat aware of its shortcomings in this area. And at least as far as the recent June “mega update” goes, the company has just made up for the lack of detailed information by publishing a richer changelog on its community forums in Korea.

The Samsung Community moderator “in charge of camera” posted a detailed changelog for the June camera update earlier today, detailing which features have been implemented for which Galaxy devices. Without further ado, here's what the update brings according to a machine-translated (and edited) extended changelog published on the official forums:

  • 2X shooting in portrait mode and improved 3x shooting in low light. Improved camera quality. Supported models: Galaxy S23 series.
  • Multiple motion photos can now be deleted simultaneously in the Gallery app. Supported models: Galaxy Note 20, S20, S21, and S22 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lineups (excluding the original Galaxy Fold).
  • The Photo Remaster tool can now correct distortions at the edges of photos captured with the wide-angle camera. Supported models: Galaxy Note 20, S20, S21, S22, and foldable phones (sans Galaxy Fold).
  • Added a function to correct distortion at the edge of photos when shooting with a 1x – 1.5x zoom using the wide lens. Supported models: Galaxy S23 series, but other devices can take advantage of these improvements through the Galaxy Enhance-X app.
  • Added a function to turn off Adaptive Pixel in the Camera Assistant. Supported models: Galaxy S23 series. Users can open the Camera Assistant, access “Adaptive Pixel,” and turn the feature ON / OFF. This was added through a recent Camera Assistant update, whose changelog was lacking.
  • HDR composition error when shooting in backlight conditions has been addressed through the “Select Speed Priority” feature in Camera Assistant (“Capture Speed” 》“Select Speed Priority”). Supported models: Galaxy S23.
  • Improved sharpness when recording 0.6x Super Steady with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
  • Optimized the picture mode preview with smoother animations when the device is moving left and right in low light conditions.
  • Improved color and sky expression for high-resolution photos.
  • Minimized color shift on certain solid color backgrounds when switching between wide and telephoto cameras.

Samsung is now rolling out the June 2023 update for the Galaxy S23 series in most markets, including Europe, the USA, and parts of Asia.

The Galaxy Enhance-X app was released for more devices earlier this month. It's available through the Galaxy Store.

Likewise, the Camera Assistant app can be downloaded from the Samsung app store, and the new Adaptive Pixel update mentioned in the detailed changelog above just started rolling out.
