Samsung is expected to unveil its next-generation smartwatches—Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic—in the last week of July. Ahead of the company's next Galaxy Unpacked event, the names and model numbers of the upcoming smartwatches have been confirmed, thanks to Google.
The Galaxy Watch 6 series has been added to Google Play Console's database ahead of its launch. Android developer Dylan Roussel was able to find their listings (via 9To5Google) and confirm that Samsung is launching the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic soon. The Galaxy Watch 6 will be available in two sizes: 40mm (SM-R930) and 44mm (SM-R940). The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will be launched in two sizes: 43mm (SM-R950) and 47mm (SM-R960).
- Galaxy Watch 6 (40mm): SM-R930
- Galaxy Watch 6 (44mm): SM-R940
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (43mm): SM-R950
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (47mm): SM-R960
While this isn't exactly new information, it is nice to get confirmation directly from Google's database. The codenames for the small and large variants of the Galaxy Watch 6 are fresh6bs and fresh6bl, respectively. With the Galaxy Watch 4 series, Samsung launched the base and Classic versions of its smartwatches, but it replaced the Classic version with a Pro version in the Galaxy Watch 5 series. However, the company is bringing back the Classic version with the launch of the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
Galaxy Watch 6 features
The Galaxy Watch 6 series is expected to largely use the same design as the Galaxy Watch 4 series (for both base and Classic versions). It could feature the Exynos W930 processor with slightly faster performance. It will run Wear OS 4-based One UI Watch 5 operating system. Other features to expect include activity tracking, body composition analysis, GPS, heart rate monitor, ECG, sleep tracking, SpO2 sensor, stress monitoring, IP68 rating, loudspeaker, LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Samsung Pay.
We can also expect the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic to feature battery capacities similar to the Galaxy Watch 5. They might also feature fast wireless charging.
