Samsung may be developing three new smart wearables or accessories

Although smartwatches feel like they've remained the only relevant smart wearables in the mainstream, Samsung still seems to be toying with the idea of developing other types of clever accessories. Or, at the very least, Samsung's occasional trademark applications keep reminding us that the world of smart devices could be more diverse.

Samsung kicked off the week by securing three new trademarks at the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). Intriguingly, the trademarks are for the “Samsung Circle,” “Samsung Index,” and “Samsung Insight” brands.

The three trademarks share the same “Nice Classification 9,” which covers “wearable computers, smart rings, smart watches, smartphones,” among other things.

What shape could these Samsung devices take?

The Samsung Circle, Samsung Index, and Samsung Insight trademarks could be bound to smart devices like smart rings, smart bracelets, or even VR controllers and smart glasses. However, this is just speculation, as these trademark applications and the Nice Classification 9 alone can't confirm much. The information is too vague to pinpoint the exact nature of these devices or if they even exist in the first place.

Nevertheless, this isn't the first time we've seen the Samsung brand associated with trademarks that may belong to smart wearables. Previously, the tech giant secured the Galaxy Glasses and Galaxy Ring trademarks, which strongly hinted at a pair of smart glasses and a smart ring being in development.

Whether those previous names are associated with Samsung Circle, Samsung Index, and Samsung Insight in any way is unclear. However, it's worth reminding that the company is now working on a new XR (mixed reality) headset. So there's also the remote possibility that Samsung might be developing clever accessories to open up new ways for XR users to interact with VR and AR objects around them

Then again, it's also possible that the Korean tech giant may have secured these trademarks to prevent other companies from using them. All in all, it's hard to be sure of anything other than the fact that Samsung has a strong enough interest in the smart accessory market to keep filing trademark applications that sound the part. Whatever comes of it remains to be seen.
