Samsung started rolling out the July 2023 security update to its phones three days ago. The new update has reached a few high-end and mid-range phones, including the Galaxy A53, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S22, and Galaxy S23. The South Korean firm has revealed which security flaws it has fixed with the July 2023 update.

Samsung's July 2023 security patch fixes 90 security flaws

According to Samsung's security bulletin, the July 2023 security patch fixes 90 security flaws found in Galaxy phones and tablets. Of these 90 fixes, 52 have been provided by Google, while Samsung has developed 38 (SVEs) fixes. Three of these security flaws are marked as critical, while 56 flaws are of high priority. The remaining security flaws are marked as moderate risks. Samsung also mentions it had already included three fixes in the June 2023 patch that Google has now released as a part of the July 2023 patch.

Some of these security flaws (SVEs) fixed by Samsung are related to manual package installation via ADB command, improper access control in the audio system, UWB chipset identifier, broadcast SMS configuration, Galaxy Themes Service, and more. Improper access control issues were also present in Settings, and several internal testing functions had out-of-bounds write issues. They allowed hackers to execute unwanted code.

Most of these security flaws are found in devices running Android 11, Android 12, Android 12L, and Android 13. Some issues are related to Qualcomm chips and components, Mali and PowerVR GPUs, and memory management.
