With the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 now official, many are likely wondering what kind of upgrades these foldables bring over their predecessors, especially in important areas such as battery size and charging speeds.
Thanks to all the rumors and leaks, it isn't really a secret that the new foldables are pretty light on the number of substantial spec upgrades. And, well, when it comes to the battery capacity and charging speeds, we're afraid it's true: Samsung has left those specs exactly the same as they were on the Z Fold 4/3 and the Z Flip 4/3.
No battery or charging upgrades, no charger in the box
The Fold 5 has a 4,400 mAh battery while the Flip 5 sports a 3,700 mAh battery. Those figures are considerably smaller than what you can find on some competing foldables. Then again, since most other foldables are not sold worldwide, Samsung probably didn't feel the need to make any big spec changes.
It's a similar story for charging speeds: both the Fold 5 and Flip 5 feature 25W fast charging. And, as you would expect, neither foldable comes with a charger in the box, so you will have to spend extra money to take advantage of the maximum charging speed if you don't already have a 25W Samsung charger (or a third-party one that can charge Samsung phones at 25W).
Now, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 have the same battery capacity and charging tech as the Fold 4 and Flip 4, it is worth mentioning that battery life on these models will probably be better thanks to the new Snapdragon chip under the hood. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ‘For Galaxy' chip enabled impressive endurance on all Galaxy S23 models, and it should benefit Samsung's new foldables as well.
