Samsung's flagship 98-inch 8K TV launched this year is the QNC990. The TV is priced at around $39,000 and is available in China and South Korea. It has now been revealed that the TV uses a display panel made by TCL's CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology).

TCL revealed (via DisplaySpecifications) that its CSOT division is manufacturing display panels for Samsung's flagship 8K TV for 2023. CSOT is TCL's display panel manufacturing division, and it is famous for its LCD-based panels. The VA panel used in Samsung's QNC990 uses HVA technology developed in-house by CSOT. HVA refers to PSVA (Polymer Stabilized Vertical Alignment) that offers improved refresh rate, response times, and light leakage performance. TCL said its display panel also reduces eye strain compared to previous-generation panels.

Samsung's 98-inch 8K TV will be launched in more markets soon and could be called the QN900C. It uses a VA-based Mini-LED panel with a layer of quantum dots to improve color accuracy and backlight control. Samsung claims its new TV can reach a peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits.

The QNC990/QN900C has 8K resolution, HDR10+, a 144Hz variable refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and hundreds of local dimming zones. The TV also features an anti-glare coating to reduce reflections from nearby light sources. Samsung partnered with Pantone to get the color calibration right. The TV has a 6.4.4-channel speaker setup with 120W of audio output. It runs Tizen and has additional features like AirPlay 2, Wireless Dolby Atmos, Bixby, Samsung Gaming Hub, Game Bar, Super Ultrawide Game View, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.
