Samsung recently unveiled its fifth-generation Galaxy Z Fold series foldable phone, and Xiaomi has now announced its third-generation foldable. Despite being two years late, Xiaomi is moving at a much faster rate than Samsung in terms of the hardware capabilities of its foldable phones.
Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 uses a Samsung OLED panel
Xiaomi has unveiled the images of the MIX Fold 3 (via Ice Universe), which will be launched in China next week. The phone's teaser images confirm that it will come with a much more compelling camera setup and probably a thinner form factor. Ross Young from DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) has revealed that the MIX Fold 3 uses a foldable display panel from Samsung Display. He also mentioned that the display panel features Color On Encapsulation technology, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and it is a very bright panel.
Unfortunately, information about its screen size, resolution, and brightness figures hasn't been released yet. From the looks of it, the phone has a quad-camera setup on the rear, tuned by Leica. There also appears to be a periscope lens for high-range zoom, something that's missing on the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
If we were to guess, the MIX Fold 3 will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Similar to its predecessor, the phone could have stereo speakers, UTG foldable screen protection, Gorilla Glass on the front, and vegan leather-like material on the back. It also appears to have a side-mounted fingerprint reader and Android 13. It may also have a battery that's bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and charging that's faster than Samsung's 25W fast charging.
However, even with all of this impressive hardware, the MIX Fold 3 will reportedly stay exclusive to the Chinese market. So, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will get competition from the MIX Fold 3 only in China.
