Samsung is working on a new item tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag 2. It is the successor to the Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy SmartTag+, which were launched in 2021. Last month, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 was certified by FCC, and the certification documents revealed a real-life image and a few specifications of the device. Now, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 has been certified by NBTC, which confirms a few details that were leaked previously and suggests that the launch of the Galaxy SmartTag 2 is getting closer.
According to the NBTC certification (via GSMArena), the Galaxy SmartTag 2 carries model number EI-T5600, which is the same model number that was mentioned in the FCC certification documents. The latest certification also reveals that the Galaxy SmartTag 2 features UWB (Ultra-Wideband) connectivity, just like its Bluetooth SIG and FCC certifications had revealed.
The Galaxy SmartTag missed out on the UWB connectivity. However, the Galaxy SmartTag+ had it. With the Galaxy SmartTag 2, Samsung is offering UWB in the non-Plus variant, which suggests that there might be no Galaxy SmartTag 2+. But we could be totally wrong. Samsung might surprise us by launching a more advanced variant of the Galaxy SmartTag 2 with GPS. But that’s highly unlikely.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 has an all-new design with a big cutout at the top, which makes the item tracker look more like a bottle opener. Currently, there’s no information about when Samsung will release the Galaxy SmartTag 2. However, we expect Samsung to launch the Galaxy SmartTag 2 at the next major event, and it could be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S23 FE and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series.
