Samsung aims to supply all sorts of components for your future EV

Samsung Electronics is gearing up for the IAA MOBILITY 2023 event set to take place in Munich, Germany, from September 5th to 10th. The International Motor Show is one of the world's largest mobility trade fairs, and the Korean tech conglomerate announced that several of its branches will have a collaborative presence at the event.

The company says its affiliates will showcase end-to-end automotive solutions “set to redefine the landscape of connected mobility.” Samsung is in a unique position wherein it has the ability to supply the growing electric car market with a wide range of solutions, from memory chips, SoCs, and power management integrated circuits to batteries, LED lighting solutions, and in-car displays.

Your future electric car will have many Samsung-made parts

At IAA Mobility 2023, Samsung will showcase its memory lineup designed for automotive applications, including LPDDR5X, GDDR7, AutoSSD, and UFS 3.1-based products. These components boast high performance and capacity for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Samsung says it wants to become the largest memory supplier across the global automotive market by 2025.

System LSI will showcase the new Exynos Auto V920 processor, which the company optimized for premium in-vehicle infotainment systems. In addition, the company has prepared ISOCELL Auto sensors (such as ISOCELL Auto 1H1 and 4AC) that can power 360-degree car vision.

And Samsung Foundry will demonstrate its latest automotive design solutions. The range includes SoCs for in-vehicle infotainment and ADAS, battery management ICs, power management ICs, and automotive microcontrollers. The company says its roadmap targets mass production of 4nm-based solutions by 2025 and 2nm-based solutions by 2026.

Another technology visitors will get to experience consists of highly customizable LED lighting solutions for vehicles, including PixelCell LED with intelligent adaptive driving beam (ADB) technology, next-gen Micro LEDs for ultra-high-resolution head-up displays, and its Mini LED technology, which is described as a vehicle-to-everything solution.

The latter consists of Mini LEDs that leverage 5G to enhance communication with other vehicles and pedestrians. It can display animated signal effects depending on environmental factors. Similar technologies were showcased at previous CES events as part of the Digital Cockpit experience.

Samsung SDI will hit the stage at IAA Mobility 2023 to unveil its “super gap” battery solutions for electric vehicles. The company will bring various battery technologies to the fair, including all-solid-state, 46-phi cylindrical, nickel manganese (NMX), and lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) batteries. Cobalt-free NMX and LMFP battery solutions ensure both safety and cost-effectiveness.

Last but not least, Samsung Display will be present at IAA Mobility 2023 for the first time and will showcase OLEDs with low power consumption in various form factors, including foldable OLEDs based on the dual-fold Flex S design. Indeed, Samsung wants to bring foldable displays to electric vehicles. But for now, the tech is employed only by high-end Galaxy phones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in late July.
