Google's Gboard is arguably one of the best keyboards on Android. Google has now added a new feature that many might appreciate. The latest beta version of the Gboard app (v13.4) gets the ‘Proofread’ option. Powered by generative AI, it can check the text for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors and fix those issues on the fly. It will improve written content without resorting to third-party services like Grammarly.

According to 9To5Google, the Proofread option appears in Gboard’s toolbar, and once you tap on it, the feature processes the content and offers you a revised version of the content by fixing spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in it. From what appears in the screenshots shared by the publication, if you like the revised version, you can tap on the thumbs-up button to replace your content with the revised version. If not, you can hit the thumbs-down button to ignore it.

Along with the Proofread option, Gboard will also show you a ‘Fix it’ button, which appears to automatically fix errors in the content without showing you the revised version of the content or giving you the option to accept or decline the suggestion. However, we still need some clarity on how the ‘Proofread’ and ‘Fix it’ options differ from each other.

Initially, the new feature will appear as a ‘Fix it’ button in Gboard’s toolbar, and when you tap it, the keyboard will show you a prompt saying, “The text that’s proofread will be sent to Google and temporarily processed to create grammar and writing suggestions.” Only when you accept these terms and conditions, you will be able to use the feature.

Currently, there’s no information on when these new features will make it to the stable version of the app. However, Generative AI features need extensive testing, so they take a considerable amount of time to reach the public. We hope that Samsung also implements an AI-powered feature to fix spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in Samsung Keyboard.
