Xiaomi launched its first foldable smartphone—Mi MIX Fold—in 2021, and it rivaled the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The recently launched MIX Fold 3 competes with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Xiaomi still hasn’t launched a clamshell-style foldable smartphone to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Well, that’s about to change soon with the upcoming Xiaomi MIX Flip.
Xiaomi MIX Flip could rival Galaxy Z Flip 5
On Wednesday, the Xiaomi MIX Flip (model number 2311BPN23C) moniker was spotted in the IMEI database in China. Going by the device's name, it seems to be a clamshell-style foldable smartphone. The MIX Flip might debut alongside the MIX Fold 4, which could launch in August 2024. A rumor suggests that the MIX Flip could launch by the end of 2023. Depending on the launch timeline, the Xiaomi MIX Flip could rival either the Galaxy Z Flip 5 or the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
This isn’t the only leak regarding the MIX Flip, though. The design of Xiaomi’s upcoming clamshell-style foldable smartphone has also been leaked. Going by the leaked image, the main display looks like any other flip-style smartphone. Whereas, the cover display seems to be as large as that on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It has a traditional rectangular design without any cut-outs like on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Xiaomi MIX Flip specifications and features
Right above the cover display, there are three cameras, suggesting that the MIX Flip could have a telephoto lens in addition to the wide and ultrawide cameras. This is something the Galaxy Z Flip 5 lacks. According to rumors, this telephoto camera will have 3x optical zoom. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Unfortunately, those are the only details we have at the moment.
So far, Xiaomi’s foldable phones have been limited to only the Chinese market. So there’s a high possibility that the MIX Flip could also be confined to China. In that case, Samsung has nothing to worry about. However, more and more brands are entering the flip-style foldable phone market, and we hope that Samsung ups its game by adding a telephoto camera and a bigger battery before its rivals catch up.
