Samsung offers four Android OS updates and five years of security updates to its mid-range and flagship smartphones. No other brand has provided as many Android OS updates to their devices in the past, not even Google. And other brands are now feeling the pressure in that aspect. Thanks to Samsung's impressive software update policy, we're seeing other brands up their software update promises.

Over the past few months, multiple brands, including OnePlus and OPPO, have promised to offer four Android OS updates. Now, Xiaomi has promised something similar.

Xiaomi promises to offer four Android OS updates, similar to Samsung

Last month, Xiaomi announced that it will offer four Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates to the company's latest smartphone, the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition. According to a tweet from Xiaomi's Communications Director, Daniel Desjarlais, the same update policy will also extend to the company's latest flagship phones, the Xiaomi 13T and the Xiaomi 13T Pro. The tweet also suggests that Xiaomi might offer its upcoming devices (at least mid-range and high-end) with the same update policy.

According to a recent report from 9To5Google, Google plans to offer more Android OS upgrades to the Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 8 series, which is scheduled to launch next month. The publication suggests that Google's update policy might even surpass Samsung's current policy. However, Xiaomi must come through with its promises if it wants people to believe its claims.

If Xiaomi comes through, Samsung will be under pressure from Xiaomi, Google, and other Chinese firms. It would be interesting to see how Samsung will respond to the competition.
