A couple of months ago, Netflix introduced games in its app for TVs and on the web. Back then, the feature was rolled out as a beta test in Canada and the UK to a small number of users. Now, the company has announced that it is extending the availability of games in the Netflix app for TVs and on the web in the US as well.
Netflix Games is rolling out to TVs and on the web in the US as a beta test. Unfortunately, there is no information about when this feature will become publicly available. Currently, there are two games available to play on these platforms: Oxenfree, an adventure game, and Molehew's Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game.
According to the company, “Games on TV will operate on select devices from our initial partners including: Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku Devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, Xfinity 4K devices and Xumo devices and TV. Additional devices will be added on an ongoing basis.” As for the web platform, you can access it from your Windows PC, Mac, or Chromebook.
Use your smartphone as a controller
To play games in the Netflix app on your TV, you will have to use your smartphone as a controller by downloading the Netflix Game Controller app. The app is already available on the Apple App Store and it should soon become available on Google Play Store. That means you can’t use your Android phone as a controller at the moment. As for playing games on Netflix from your Windows PC, Mac, or Chromebook using a web browser, you can use your device’s keyboard, mouse, and trackpad as controllers.
