Meta is ending WhatsApp support for older Android OS versions, which means the messaging app will stop working on some Galaxy phones later this month. However, we wouldn't worry about it unless you're a classic Galaxy phone collector still using some of the company's original models.
WhatsApp will stop working for Android 5.0 and older versions of Google mobile OS from October 24. In essence, this change will affect any Android device still running version 5.0 Lollipop or older, not just Samsung phones.

Galaxy S4 and Note 3 users are in trouble. If there are any left
Since devices like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 have received the official Android 6 Marshmallow update, they're safe from this WhatsApp change. At least, for the time being.
However, Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, are not so lucky. These devices received Android Lollipop years ago but didn't get version 5.1.1. The last official OS they obtained was Android 5.0 Lollipop, and that no longer qualifies for WhatsApp support.
We're guessing there aren't that many Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 users left, and perhaps those who keep using this hardware have installed newer custom ROMs, which means they shouldn't be affected by this WhatsApp policy change. But if you're still rocking the Galaxy S4, Note 3, or older Galaxy device, first of all, props to you for somehow keeping these phones in circulation for a decade or more.
Nevertheless, maybe it's time to consider an upgrade. The new Galaxy S23 series will probably blow you away, given all the performance, 120Hz smoothness, One UI features, build quality, and more. Even the Galaxy A54 is worth a look at if you decide to retire your old device.
