Upcoming iMacs might be a mild threat to Samsung’s PC monitor business

For reasons unknown, Apple has yet to update its new iMac line with the M2 series of chips. But the wait might be worth it for Apple fans, as the company is reportedly planning to release two new iMacs over the next two years.

In 2024, Apple will update the iMac with a refreshed 24-inch model, predicts analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via Apple Insider). Presumably, this refreshed iMac Apple could release next year might feature a newer M-series chip under the hood.

Apple is going mini LED, but there's no sign of Samsung Display

Aside from the 2024 iMac model, market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple will release another iMac in 2025, this time rocking a 32-inch display. This higher-end 32-inch iMac will reportedly sport a mini LED panel.

This could position the 32-inch iMac above its weight class. The 2025 model may blur the lines between a home computer and a pro-grade tool and might step on Samsung's toes. If priced right, the 32-inch iMac could threaten Samsung's market share in the high-end PC monitor segment.

Samsung Display was not mentioned as a potential supplier for either of these upcoming iMacs. And unfortunately, Apple's All-in-One (AiO) computers don't have a direct competitor in Samsung.

However, Samsung released the Viewfinity S9 monitor a few weeks ago. It's a 5K monitor for professionals who need high color accuracy and resolution. And, unlike the Apple Studio Display, the Viewfinity S9 includes a height and tilt-adjustable stand and a matte finish for its 27-inch QLED panel.

Samsung will probably never release an AiO computer to compete directly with the iMac. Nevertheless, its displays are some of the best choices for PC users in need of pro-grade solutions. The upcoming iMacs are unlikely to change that.
