WhatsApp, the world's most popular instant messaging app, has been adding new features faster than ever. Last year, the company introduced the ability to switch data between Android and iOS. It also introduced the ability to use the same account on multiple devices. Now, the company is adding one more requested feature: the ability to use multiple accounts on the same device.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that WhatsApp will soon allow users to use two accounts on the same phone. The feature will be available on Android. This feature is already available in the beta version of WhatsApp since August 2023, but it will roll out to everyone soon. This is an excellent feature for those who have separate phone numbers for personal and work use and have to use WhatsApp on both numbers.
With this new feature, people may not need to use Samsung's Dual Messenger feature, which clones instant messaging and social media apps to allow people to allow two accounts using two separate instances of the same app. However, people could use Dual Messenger to use up to four WhatsApp accounts on the same phone.
There is no information about when this feature will be available for iPhone users. Meta has recently started offering new features first on Android and then iOS. For example, WhatsApp has a dedicated app for Wear OS smartwatches, but isn't available for Apple Watches. It is also planning to bring Meta AI to WhatsApp along with Generative AI stickers.
