Qualcomm has made a number of impressive announcements today, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset that will power next year's Galaxy S24 lineup. But that's not the most interesting thing we have learned today.
That honor goes to the Snapdragon X Elite chipset for PCs, which comes with a new CPU core design dubbed Oryon that puts even Apple's latest MacBook chips to shame when it comes to performance. And that's not all: these new Oryon CPU cores will also be coming to Snapdragon chips on mobile in the near future, which could be a major game changer.
Qualcomm teases a major shakeup for Snapdragon in 2024
Since this is slated to happen next year, one can reasonably assume that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 that will power the Android flagship phones in 2025 will come with these CPU cores. While it remains unlikely that these cores, in the current computing-focused state in which they've been unveiled, will be coming over as it is on smartphones. However, this give us great hope that there's amazing power to be unleashed for smartphones in the year to come.
The 2024 flagship chipset from Qualcomm will provide a big edge to Android manufacturers who want their high-end phones to compete against iPhones. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will equip them with unparalleled power and efficiency in addition to industry-leading on-device AI functionalities to deliver a truly best-in-class experience.
