Last year, Samsung expanded the AI Energy Mode in SmartThings to offer support for home appliances, which Samsung said can help users lower monthly power consumption by up to 21%. Much more recently, Samsung brought that same mode to select smart TVs released this year.

The AI Energy Mode in SmartThings can reduce power consumption for Samsung smart TVs by up to 23%, the company says. This percentage can vary by model, but Samsung used the Neo QLED 8K 65QN800C model as a reference.

Samsung's clever AI Energy Mode, accessible through the SmartThings mobile app for Android and iOS, is also compatible with The Frame 2023 TV and other 2023 smart TV models (CU7000 and above).

AI that runs your Samsung TV smarter

AI Energy Mode in SmartThings works hand-in-hand with your TV's internal processor. When the mode is enabled, the TV's processor automatically adjusts specific parameters to help you save energy. AI Energy Mode achieves higher efficiency through features such as:

  • Environment adaptive brightness: The screen brightness automatically adjusts according to light conditions in the environment.
  • User adaptable brightness: The TV screen automatically dims when it detects no user activity for more than two hours. This feature uses advanced motion sensors.
  • Content adaptive brightness: Through machine learning (ML), Samsung TVs can analyze the movement of on-screen content and automatically adjust brightness levels for different scenes.

SmartThings users who enable the AI Energy Mode will also gain access to a 3D Visualization Map that allows them to check and manage energy consumption for all their SmartThings products in a more visual way.

For the AI Energy Mode feature to work, users need to have the SmartThings app installed on a mobile device that shares a Wi-Fi connection with the TV. A Samsung account is also required.
