Many Galaxy A and Galaxy M phones will now receive fewer or no updates

Samsung regularly reduces the update frequency for Galaxy smartphones and tablets and also stops updating them a few years after they first go on sale. And this month, the list of Galaxy devices for which Samsung will release fewer or no updates going forward is longer than usual.

No more updates for the Galaxy A20s, A30s, A50s, and A70s

The most notable Galaxy phone that will not be getting any more updates is the Galaxy Fold, Samsung's first foldable. The rest are all mid-range devices: Samsung will stop updating the Galaxy A20s, Galaxy A30s, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy A70s, as all of them have now completed four years on the market. The same applies to the Galaxy Tab Active Pro, which went on sale back in October 2019.

In the Galaxy M series, which is comprised of phones that offer some of the best features found on Galaxy A smartphones for a lower price, Samsung will release fewer updates for the Galaxy M22 and the Galaxy M52 5G. These phones were launched in late 2021 and enjoyed security updates every three months for the first two years. Now, the frequency will go down to just two updates in 12 months.

Naturally, that also means the M22 and M52 will not be updated to Android 14 and One UI 6. Two major OS upgrades were all they were promised, and Samsung fulfilled that promise when it released Android 13 for the two phones last year. The Galaxy M52 was also updated with One UI 5.1, which brought some new features from the Galaxy S23 series to the mid-range handset.
