It hasn’t even been three months since Apple launched the iPhone 15 lineup and we have already seen plenty of leaks and rumors about the upcoming iPhone 16 series. Today, we have one more. This one comes from Ming-Chi Kuo. It claims that all the iPhone 16 models will have significantly better microphones compared to the previous and current iPhone models. Reportedly, improved microphones will help the upcoming devices to offer a better experience with the AI-powered features that will arrive in Siri with iOS 18.
According to a post on Medium, Apple will equip significantly upgraded microphones in all the iPhone 16 models. These microphones will have better water resistance and improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Apple will reportedly get these microphones manufactured by the same two companies that make microphones for the current models, AAC and Goertek. According to Kuo, the average sales price (ASP) of the microphones for the iPhone 16 models will be 100% to 150% higher than those for the iPhone 15.
The latest news which claims that Apple is planning to use improved microphones for the iPhone 16 models further strengthens previous leaks and rumors which suggest that Apple is going to add AI-powered features to Siri with iOS 18. Plus, it hints that the upcoming AI-powered features in Siri will heavily rely on microphone performance. However, it also suggests that Apple might not offer some of those AI-powered features on older iPhone models because the microphones in those devices might not be as capable.
