While the only big change in terms of Galaxy S24 Ultra camera hardware appears to be its new 50MP telephoto camera, Samsung is making several improvements to image processing. The company is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, improved algorithms, and AI to improve image and video quality. Apparently, the upcoming flagship phone will offer better image quality in low-light and 200MP modes.

Galaxy S24 Ultra may offer improved images in low-light and better 200MP images

According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features an improved Night Mode, which should improve the overall image quality. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is no slouch either, but it leaves a bit to be desired in certain low-light situations. There is more noise than we would like in the dark sky areas in low-light scenes, while the details look a bit oversharpened. If the Galaxy S24 Ultra improves upon those things, it could be among the best smartphone cameras in the world.

The tipster also claimed that the phone uses AI to identify 12 different kinds of subjects/objects and optimize them for better image quality in 200MP resolution. There is no detailed information about exactly what kind of optimizations that phone will perform, but it is possible that it can identify objects and process their color, details, and dynamic range differently. Yesterday, it was also leaked that the Galaxy S24 Ultra may capture 24MP images instead of 12MP by default.

The story continues after our Galaxy S23 Ultra review video.

Galaxy S24 Ultra camera specifications

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a slightly improved 200MP camera sensor. It is also said to feature a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The primary and both telephoto cameras are expected to feature OIS, while the 50MP telephoto camera may use 5x optical zoom in conjunction with in-sensor crop to offer 10x optical zoom-like quality for still images.

A few weeks ago, Samsung also unveiled Zoom AnyPlace technology, which uses 200MP camera sensors to zoom up to 4x in any scene without an image quality downgrade. Moreover, it can capture a full-frame 4K video and a 4K video of the 4x zoomed-in part simultaneously to offer more creative room for users. The phone may also be able to offer 5x zoom (near lossless) while recording 8K videos.
