Microsoft offers Copilot, the company’s generative AI chatbot, with its Edge web browser on mobile devices (Android and iOS) among other platforms. At the moment, Microsoft allows people to use all the functionalities of this service, including conversations and image generation, for free. That, however, might change in the future.
In a teardown of version 122.0.2336.0 and version 122.0.2342.0 of the Microsoft Edge Canary app for Android, Android Authority has found the term ‘Copilot Pro.’ Going by the name, it could be an advanced version of Copilot that Microsoft might on a subscription basis. According to a string of code in the APK, Copilot Pro will offer “latest AI models, priority access for quick answers, and high-quality image creation.”
Microsoft already offers those three features to people free of cost. So, it looks like the company might stop users from accessing some of those functionalities for free and move those features to Copilot Pro, for which, they’ll have to pay monthly/yearly charges. This is bad news for people who are using Copilot. However, this was bound to happen as Microsoft had to start making money out of its investment in GenAI.
