Ever since the Galaxy S24 series went official, those who own older Galaxy smartphones have been wondering how many of the Galaxy S24's software features they will get with the One UI 6.1 update. People are especially keen to learn about Samsung's plans for the fancy AI-powered features that its newest flagship comes equipped with, and thanks to TechRadar, we have an answer.

We had confirmed in an exclusive report that the Galaxy S24's AI tricks would be coming to Samsung's 2023 flagships, and Samsung has now confirmed that no other devices will be included in the eligibility list. The company made that decision as it wants to “secure the quality and the performance of what we deploy”, which, in layman's terms, means it is artificially limiting the features to newer devices.

That's evident from the fact that the Galaxy S24's AI features will be coming to the Galaxy S23 FE, which is powered by the same Exynos and Snapdragon chips as the Galaxy S22 series, indicating that the lower processing power of those older chips is not a limiting factor. It also suggests that Samsung could change its mind later, though we're going to assume that won't happen as it could affect the sales of the Galaxy S24 series and flagship phones Samsung launches in the future.

So, for now, the S24's AI features are confirmed to be coming to the following Galaxy smartphones and tablets:

  • Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, Tab S9 Ultra

Samsung has also revealed which Galaxy S24 and One UI 6.1 camera and media features will make their way to existing devices. The list includes the ability to create 12MP images and long-exposure images from motion photos, slowing down specific parts of a video in the Samsung Studio video editor, improved quality for images and videos viewed or captured inside social media apps like Snapdragon and Instagram, the option to use all rear cameras in Single Take mode, and colorizing monochrome (black and white) images using AI.
