Google released the Pixel 8 series in October 2023, which means that it is still new and the company might have started the development of the next lineup of flagship smartphones, the Pixel 9 series, only recently. At this point, we don’t expect to see leaks regarding the design of the smartphones in the lineup. However, that’s exactly what’s happening today. A new leak brings renders of the Pixel 9 Pro, one of the two phones in the lineup, which reveal some interesting details about Google’s next flagship smartphone.
The renders reveal that the Pixel 9 Pro will look significantly different than the Pixel 8 Pro. Let’s start with the design of the frame. While the Pixel 8 Pro has rounded sides, the Pixel 9 Pro has completely flat sides, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and the Galaxy S24. Next, the camera hump now has an oval shape, isn’t attached to the frame anymore, and protrudes from the back panel significantly more than that in the previous model. Third, the SIM card slot is now located at the bottom of the device rather than on the left.
Pixel 9 Pro will have a smaller display than Pixel 8 Pro
Additionally, MySmartPrice says that the Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.5-inch display, which means that it will be 0.2-inch smaller compared to the 6.7-inch screen on the Pixel 8 Pro. The rest of the physical aspects of the Pixel 9 Pro, including a punch-hole on the display and side-mounted power and volume buttons, remain the same as the Pixel 8 Pro. The exposed antennas suggest that it will continue to feature a metal frame.
According to the publication, the upcoming phone will measure 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm. So, the Pixel 9 Pro will be taller and wider than the Pixel 8 Pro despite a smaller display, which means that it will either have thicker bezels around the display or this information is wrong. We are leaning towards the latter because we don’t think Google would increase the thickness of bezels in a world where everyone is doing the opposite.
What else will it offer?
Apart from the renders, what we know about the Pixel 9 Pro so far is that it will use the Tensor G4 chipset, which will be based on the Samsung Exynos 2400 and manufactured by Samsung Foundry, and that’s pretty much it. As for the other smartphone in the lineup, the Pixel 9, there’s no information about it at the moment. We are expecting the tipster to release the renders of the base variant as well very soon.
Author’s Note: The Pixel 8 Pro has a beautiful design. With the Pixel 9 Pro, Google is taking that design to the next level by making it look more modern and bold. However, even with those improvements, it doesn’t look as good as the Galaxy S24 Ultra to me. Speaking of which, from what we know about the Pixel 9 Pro so far, I don’t think that it will be as good as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. That’s because the one from Google will not only have an inferior processor but also a smaller screen, and a lesser number of cameras.
