Netflix is doing away with one of its ad-free subscription plans. The company announced in an earnings report that the Basic ad-free subscription will no longer be available in some countries.

From the second quarter of 2024, Netflix will remove the $11.99 ad-free Basic plan starting with Canada and the UK. Other countries will follow at a later unspecified date (via The Verge).

With the $11.99 ad-free Basic plan removed, customers in these countries won't have many other options. They could subscribe to the pricier $15.49 plan, which will become the cheapest ad-free tier after the $11.99 subscription is removed.

Alternatively, Netflix users could sign up for the pricier ad-free $22.99 Premium plan or the cheaper ad-supported basic plan in exchange for $6.99 a month.

Another announcement Netflix made today is that it signed a $5 billion deal for ten years to bring WWE's Monday Night Raw to the streaming platform.

Regarding the changes to the subscription model, Netflix executive wrote, “As we invest in and improve Netflix, we'll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements.”
